PROJECT: Suez Canal Bridge

1996-2001

The Suez Canal Bridge provides an essential link between Asia (Sinai Peninsula) and Africa, spanning the Suez Canal, one of the most important and busiest sea routes in the world. The project was executed between 1996-2001, at Qantara, Egypt, with a total cost of USD 200 million.

The bridge (including approaches) is nine km in length with a main navigational span of 404m. The cable-stayed bridge has a clear height of 70 m over the water level to enable the largest carriers to pass safely and freely in the canal. The approaches have a total length of 3.5 km and are of continuous pre-stressed box girders executed using the movable shuttering system. The columns range in height from ten m to 60 m, and were constructed using the slip form system.

Services provided for this project included:

  • Revision and approval of design drawings
  • Preparation of method statements for construction across all aspects of the project
  • Permanent supervision of construction
