PROJECT: Orantes Irrigation Project, Syria
The Orantes Basin has been identified as one of the main regions in Syria to face a water deficit problem. Improvements to farming techniques and provision of modern irrigation systems have been cited as significant steps towards regulating water usage in the area.
This project comprised of an extensive study for the development of a new irrigation network for the Orantes Basin. The system serves approximately 10,300 hectares of land with the network consisting of five principle channels fed from wells located at Ain Al-Tannour in the up-stream area of the Basin.
The project included extensive feasibility and optioneering studies including economic, environmental, hydrological, geotechnical, and topographic input. Once a preferred scheme was chosen, the detailed design was delivered including cost estimations and tender document preparation.
