PROJECT: Millennium Airport, Swaziland
2001-2011
A new International Airport has been planned for the Kingdom of Swaziland. This will be the only operational airport in the Kingdom and will provide a gateway to the many tourist attractions in the region. The airport has a design capacity of 300,000 passengers per annum and has been designed in accordance with ICAO and IATA standards incorporating the following features:
- 3600m Cat 1 runway capable of accommodating the B747-400 (safeguarding for a second parallel runway in the future), including associated taxiways, aprons and AGL
- Air Traffic Control Tower
- Navigation aids including ILS, Primary and Secondary Radar and communications equipment
- Hangars and aircraft maintenance facilities
- A 64,000m2 Terminal building with VIP lounges and a Royal VIP lounge
- A 1000m2 cargo terminal building capable of handling 5000 tonnes of cargo per annum
- A fuel depot with an apron hydrant fueling system
- Airport Fire and Rescue facilities
- Appropriate car parking and road network
- Electrical sub-stations, sewage treatment and pumping stations, offices and other ancillary facilities
